Tips to Maintain Website Compliance

April 07, 2020

Technology opens numerous doors of opportunity to grow and manage business in the insurance world. One avenue of technology that many agents make use of of is the ability to create a unique and personal website. This can be an excellent tool for an insurance agent; however, it is important to be mindful of maintaining website compliance. Below are some tips and tricks to assist with creating a compliant website.

  1. Make sure the website includes the disclaimer, “Not affiliated with the U.S. Government or Federal Medicare Program”. This can be placed at the bottom of the web page.
  2. Include a privacy policy. Many resources and templates can be found online to assist with creating a compliant privacy policy.
  3. If the website contains carrier logos, confirm the proper permissions for logo usage have been obtained. In addition, check that the correct logo image is being displayed. It is a good idea to review this often, as a carrier may update their logo design.
  4. In regards to Medicare Advantage, websites may not include specific information pertaining to Benefit/Premium/Co-pay information.
  5. Use Spell-Check! This might seem like a no-brainer; however, it is easy to overlook a grammar mistake when creating a website.
  6. Be mindful that the words below are being used appropriately:

-The term “free” must not be used to describe benefits or services.

-The term “senior” must not be used when describing enrollment eligibility.

-The term “entitled” must only be used when referencing Part A.

As always, make it a point to keep integrity at the forefront of your business by advertising accurate and honest information.
